Seeks restoration of Art 370, 35-A, Full Statehood
The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Tuesday passed a resolution on Article 370, which was abrogated by the Central government in 2019.
Earlier today, the core group members of parties that are part of PAGD were invited to the convention. The convention was held at Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar.
The elections are likely to be held in the Union Territory in the next 5-6 months as the delimitation process is still underway. Parties based in the Kashmir division have been asked to gear up for the elections, sources said.
PAGD said that the conglomerate has decided not to act as mute spectators over the humiliation being faced by the J&K people.
While addressing Convention and laying emphasis on the need of unity, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti said that ‘only unity can take people out from suppression, repression and oppression.’
“We are facing lot of suppression. Let us see when elections are fought but this is the time for unity. If you want people to take out from all troubles, you have to be united. All eyes are on us. Attempts are being made to create confusion and misunderstanding and we have been firm and cautious. Several workers were misled by some elements who called me saying that they heard today’s PAGD meeting has been cancelled,” she said adding that a misinformation campaign against PAGD is being running by some elements.
Kashmiris are being silenced on the barrel of the gun. “Kashmris are shell shocked. They can’t express themselves. PSA awaits those who speak truth. Journalists are being harassed, arrested, deprived of getting passports. A young man who had captured the video when an army vehicle mowed down an elderly woman in North Kashmir’s Bandipora was booked under Public Safety Act. This is height of repression and abject shame,” Mufti added.
Speaking to news agency outside Abdullah’s residence, senior vice president of Awami National Conference, Muzaffar Shah said the agenda of the meeting, apart from the restoration of the Article 370, is to launch a mass contact programme.
PAGD spokesman, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said that the incumbent government is feeling proud in humiliating the people. Such is the height, that the top posts in State and other cadre are held by the outside officers while the J&K bureaucrats are being deprived of the top positions,”.
Tarigami, who is also CPI (M) senior leader, stated that the conglomerate has passed a resolution today in the meeting in which several points have been raised including the restoration of what has been snatched on August 05, 2019.
