Consumers from Larnoo, Panwiha, Zazrepora, Kinepora and Nanibug of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday protested against ‘exorbitant’ increase in electricity tariff.
Protesting consumers staged a sit-in on the road during which the road connecting with the Islamabad, Shopian and other areas remain blocked for the vehicular movement as hundreds of the vehicles were stranded on the road.
Holding electricity bills in their hands, the locals chanted slogans against the PDD. One of the locals Abrar Ah while talking to CNS said that the Power Development Department isn’t providing them the receipts according to the “Reading of the Electronic Metre” but the tariff is based on the wish officers”
He added that although they used to receive the bill of the month around the 800Rs-1000Rs but abruptly the department has send the bills starting from 4000 to 8000 Rs which is an absolute injustice as even if the person will use all appliances it is expected around 2,000 Rs only as per units.
Meanwhile DSP GM Bhat and SHO Imtiyaz Ah along with other civil officials visited the spot and pacified the protestors to avoid law & order situation.
