Due to the ongoing dry weather in the valley, the night temperature may drop further as according to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department, the weather is likely to change from evening to December 26 and light Snowfall may be received in the upper and plains till midnight of December 27.
They added that there may be moderate snowfall. The second day of the arrival of Chala Kalan also saw an improvement in temperature but it is expected to decrease in the next few days.
As the extreme cold continues, although the sun shines throughout the day, the night time temperature continues to drop. The city of Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.2 last night.
According to the meteorological department, severe cold wave has engulfed the entire valley in Kashmir Valley and Kargil provinces and severe cold wave is continuing due to icy winds.
Along with the valley, the Ladakh region is also in the grip of severe cold. Similarly, the temperature in Drass of Ladakh region has also dropped to a very low level and last night the mercury dropped to minus 27 degrees.
The temperature recorded -4.6 in Qazigund, – 2.4 in Kupwara and -3.6 in Kokernag.
Due to severe cold, water reservoirs in Srinagar and other areas are freezing. Similar situation is being witnessed in North and South Kashmir.
