Socio-Political Activist Syed Karar Hashmi appealed to the people of entire Jammu and Kashmir cutting across political and religious affiliations to organize and celebrate State Flag Day functions across the state to strengthening States unique Identity and Culture. The role of Intellectuals, Scholars and civil societies are very much vast on such days to make public aware of the importance and history behind such celebrations. According to the Indian Constitution, states are not prohibited from having a separate flag. However, the state flag must fly at a lower height than the National flag.
Hashmi said that, at contemporary, J&K is the only state legally to fly its own flag under Article 370 of the Constitution that gives the state special autonomous status. The state’s constituent assembly has adopted the state flag on June 7, in 1952, got reflected in section 144, the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and the said flag is a symbol of our Identity and Cultural belonging. We have our own Constitution, Flag, and anthem, the 21 members of the constituent assembly Including Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Kirshan Dev Sethi, Mirza Afzal Beigh, had passed a resolution regarding metamorphous of the flag, that it will be rectangular, red in color with 3 vertical lines and a white plow in the middle with its handle facing the strips.
It is high time for the government of India having such a massive mandate given by people to resolve Kashmir issue for all times to come through discussions and fruitful negotiations with all the stakeholders concerned. Peace is the prerequisite for every nation to move towards progress and achieving objectives for what the government has been elected.
