Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday said the decision of some Pandit families to return to Kashmir has sent a positive message and would further strengthen the bond between different communities.
Mirwaiz was speaking to media after inaugurating a readymade and dress material showroom of iconic Tirath Ram and Sons at Maharaj Gunj in Downtown,
He said Kashmiri Muslims especially traders must support minority community returning back to Kashmir to revive their family businesses.
“Some people give an impression that brotherhood and harmony in Kashmir has vanished. That is totally incorrect. I would say bond between communities has become firm and relations are more cordial,” Mirwaiz said.
“Opening up of this retail venture also sends across a positive message. I am happy that some members of minority community are gradually returning back to their roots to re-establish their family businesses. It has been a tradition here to welcome such people. I am hopeful that not just business community but common people will also encourage such people returning back to Valley,” Mirwaiz said.
Commenting on setting-up of Tirath Ram and Company (TRC) retail showroom, Mirwaiz said the 150-year old firm working in Kashmir, especially in Downtown Srinagar, was a historical feat achieved by this company.
“It is a welcome step that younger generation of this family is taking the business forward. The kind of support they have received from people of Shehar-e-Khaas. Beopaar Mandal Maharaj Gunj and members of Shehar-e-Khaas Coordination Committee is overwhelming and they must continue to support such initiatives,” said Mirwaiz.
Vishal Malhotra, co-owner of TRC said opening of the retail showroom was a big achievement for the company owners who did not leave Kashmir despite turmoil. “We have office even in Dubai and supply merchandise to some of the most famous persons but having remained attached to our roots is the biggest satisfaction. We opened this showroom as retail merchandise stores are gaining vast popularity among people,” Malhotra said.
Another owner of TRC, Vikram Malhotra expressed joy over opening up of the new showroom. “The readymade garments for ladies and other specialised product categories will make us stand apart. We have a complete range of Hajj essentials as well,” Malhotra said.
