Several areas of the summer capital were waterlogged following heavy rains on Monday evening.
Normal life was affected as hailstorm swept across the city followed by heavy downpour causing waterlogging in various areas here.
Vehicular movement was hampered due to water-logging at Regal Chowk, Exhibition Crossing, Maulana Azad Road, Residency Road, Samandar Bagh, Munwarabad, Bemina, Mehjoor Nagar and Chanapora localities.
Coupled with defunct drainage system, several areas in Downtown turned into cesspool.
Commuters expressed resentment against authorities for failing to put in place proper drainage system.
The sudden rains affected several marriage functions when guests were being served meals.
The pictures from disruption in marriage functions due to rains were also posted on social networking sites. Some pictures showed water-logged tents.
Authorities claim that 80 pumping stations and 115 mobile pumping units were pressed into service for dewatering in affected areas. However, most of the locals complained that these pumping stations don’t functional properly.
People expressed resentment against authorities for failing to put efficient drainage system on place for quick dewatering process. "It is ironical that few minutes of rains waters-logs major roads in Srinagar," said Sajad Ahmad a commuter.
One of the drainage projects being executed by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) from Post Office to Court Road is yet to be completed despite missing of several deadlines.
